Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a machine image stored in Amazon EBS or S3. It can also be encrypted if snapshot encryption or a default encryption policy is enabled. It functions as a template for a server’s system disk, containing the operating system and potentially additional application layers such as database servers, middleware, or web servers.

An AMI enables quick creation and launch of identical Amazon EC2 instances, making it easy to scale infrastructure and maintain consistent environments in the AWS cloud.
