Availability Zone

An Availability Zone is a distinct location within an AWS Region, designed to be physically isolated from other zones in the same Region and resilient to their failures. Each AWS Region consists of at least two, and often three or more, Availability Zones, which enables the creation of highly available and fault-tolerant architectures.

Availability Zones are interconnected with a high-speed, low-latency network, allowing data replication and load distribution between them. This makes it possible to design applications that automatically switch between zones in the event of a failure in one of them, minimizing downtime and data loss. They are a key component of high availability and disaster resilience strategies in the AWS cloud.
