There are many approaches to developing a cost allocation model. However, it is worth referring to the best practices recommended by AWS.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">AWS Cloud experts focused on 3 areas related to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the AWS account structure;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the tagging;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the common cost reporting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #199ad8;\"><b>AWS ACCOUNT STRUCTURE<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first issue is extremely important from the point of view of the hierarchy and well-designed organizational structure in AWS. In addition, it allows for central account management, resource sharing and billing consolidation.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #199ad8;\"><b>TAGGING<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tagging allows you to assign metadata to AWS resources. Thanks to this, you can easily create the key and tag value of a given resource, which enables efficient filtering, searching and resource management. An alternative is to use the <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/ARG\/latest\/userguide\/tag-editor.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWS Tag editor<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which allows the previously mentioned configuration for multiple resources at the same time. After creating <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/awsaccountbilling\/latest\/aboutv2\/cost-alloc-tags.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the resource tags<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we can activate the cost allocation tags in the Billing and Cost Management console.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">Here, the tags can be classified in 2 ways:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">user-defined,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">automatically generated by AWS.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">What can we gain by such tagging? Better mapping of information on costs and use in the organizational structure, moreover, such tagging allows for logical grouping of accounts and resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to start the tagging process from the very beginning of infrastructure development. In order to maintain control over the process, <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/organizations\/latest\/userguide\/orgs_manage_policies_scps.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWS Organizations Service Control Policies (SCPs)<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be used to enforce the use of tags and maintain consistency in their use.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #199ad8;\"><b>COMMON COST REPORTING<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last issue is reporting shared costs. It is helpful to use\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/aws-cost-management\/aws-cost-categories\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWS Cost Categories<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is a great way to group shared resources.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, it is worth implementing tools such as <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/aws-cost-management\/aws-cost-explorer\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWS Cost Explorer<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"color: #199ad8;\"><a style=\"color: #199ad8;\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/aws-cost-management\/aws-cost-and-usage-reporting\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWS Cost and Usage Reports<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will provide information on costs and consumption at the appropriate level of detail.
